Growing in God: He Cares for You

“Cast your cares on Him for He cares for you.”

1 Peter 5:7

Lately this line has been on repeat in my mind. As I think about the season I’m in, I’m frequently reminded that I don’t have to have all the answers. I don’t have to figure everything out today. I don’t have to worry about what may or may not happen tomorrow. I don’t need to spend my time and energy trying to predict the future. All I need to do is trust in the Lord. Every single thing that’s on my mind right now, I can share with Him because He cares for me. Every miniature detail of my life, He cares about. If I care, He cares.❤

We serve a God who chose us before we ever said yes to Him (John 15:16). A God who laid out every step that we’ll ever take (Psalm 37:23). A God who placed a purpose within us (Ephesians 2:10), created us all with unique gifts (Romans 12:6-8), made plans to prosper us (Jeremiah 29:11), and promises to be with us every step of the way (Joshua 1:9). God loves us so much that He promised to never leave or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). He knew us and set us apart before we were ever conceived (Jeremiah 1:5). He hand-crafted us, giving extra detail even to every hair on our heads (Luke 12:7). We were uniquely and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). We are special, and we are important to Him. He cares about us.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

1 Peter 2:9

We serve a God who is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). A God who gives strength to the weak (Isaiah 40:29-31). A God who can make a way out of no way. A God who has our best interest at heart. Paul prayed that we would know just how deep, how wide, how long, and how high God’s love for us truly is! (Ephesians 3:14-21). This is a God who listened to the fears of Moses and in turn, gave Him signs to help increase his faith. He even provided Moses with a support system because Moses did not yet believe in himself or understand the power of God (Exodus 3 & 4). This is a God who heard the cries of Sarah and Abraham when they thought they would never be able to have children together. God not only kept His promise to them, but He made Abraham the father of many nations (Gensis 15 -18). Our God is a merciful God. A God who forgives us and does not hold our sins against us (Hebrews 8:12). This is a God who listens to each and every one of our prayers and He hears us (1 John 5:14-15)! He often even responds, we just have to be listening/watching for it. Our God has a love for us that never ceases (Lamentations 3:22-23)! This is a Father who loved us so much that He sent His one and only son into the world as a living sacrifice on our behalf so that we may have life (1 John 4: 9-10 & John 3:16).

As I learn more and more about the character of God, I tend to draw nearer to Him. I’m realizing that there is nothing too small to talk to Him about. When I’m confused, I can tell Him. When I’m emotional, I can tell Him. When I’m excited, I can tell Him. When there are certain desires in my heart, I can admit them to Him. When I’m upset, I can tell Him. Even if He is the source of my frustration, I can be honest with Him about that, too. As I read through some of His encounters with individuals in the Old Testament, I see that God met them where they were at in their faith. When the Isrealites doubted Moses and wished they had been left in Egypt, God revealed Himself to them rather than becoming upset (to an extent). He is still that same, compassionate God today. The good news is that when we believe that Jesus is Lord, His spirit dwells within us, giving us direct access to Him at all times. Because of this, we have no reason not to be in relationship with Him. So why not cast all of our cares on Him? He literally cares about every intricate piece of us – inside and out. And He hears us! ❤

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you”

Jeremiah 29:12

I’m in a place where I have questions that I do not know the answer to. All I’m holding on to is faith. My trust is not in the circumstances themselves, but instead, it is in God. Even so, I still have moments where I begin to doubt or become anxious. What I’m realizing is that I need to surrender my thoughts, plans, worries, and desires back to God daily. I must stay reminded that He cares for me and because He cares for me, He WILL take care of me. I do not need to worry about the outcome of different situations because ultimately, I want to allow God to have His way. Here’s what His word says:

  • Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all of these things will be added. (Matthew 6:33)
  • Be anxious for nothing, but in all things through prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
  • “Be still, and know that I AM God.” (Psalm 46:10)
  • Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, submit to him and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

Matthew 7:9-11

I say all of this to encourage anyone who may feel alone, silenced, forgotten about, overlooked, unheard, confused, or anxious for what’s to come. Know that even through the uncertainty, even through the disappointment, even if that prayer hasn’t been answered yet, even though God may seem quiet – God is still right there with you. He hears you. He see’s you. He has not forgotten about you. He is working things out for you right now behind the scenes. If you feel weak remember that you can run, and he won’t let you faint. If you are filled with doubt, know that all He’s asking for is the faith of a mustard seed, and He’ll meet you where you are. If you’re seeking answers, be reassured that you will know what you need to know when you need to know it, and until then, He just asks that you would trust Him. He wants us to stop focusing so much on what we can see and instead fix our focus onto Him. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, and His ways higher than our ways. (Isaiah 55: 8-9)

Anything that may be on our minds today, God knows, and He cares. Surrender these thoughts, desires, burdens, and worries to Him, and allow Him to work it all out for you in His perfect timing.

“Cast your cares on the Lord, and he will sustain you;
He will never let the righteous be shaken.”

Psalm 55:22

-Jourdan Janae

P.s I encourage you to check out the different scriptures included in this post. There is so much power and encouragement that comes from reading His word for yourself rather than only receiving it second-hand. Each link should take you directly to that passage. I pray the verses resonate with your spirit and find a place in your heart the way they have in mine.
