Today is August 1st and this month I will be doing a 31-Day Pray for Them Challenge. The purpose of this challenge is to pray for a specific person consistently, believing that God makes a way in his or her life. I believe with everything in me that prayer works. There have been many times that I’ve called out to God and He’s answered, so I am a witness to His power.
Because I know prayer works, I also believe that my prayers can help to move mountains in the lives of others. Whether this is a person who doesn’t necessarily have the faith that you do or this person is going through a hard time, sometimes the only thing we can do is pray for them. Maybe the person you choose can’t cover themselves in prayer or is currently dealing with a bit of spiritual warfare – pray for them. Maybe the person is your enemy, someone you have a bit of hostility towards, or someone you’re disappointed in. Instead of talking down on them or walking around with a spirit of bitterness – pray for them. Not only can your prayers heal them, but your prayers for that person can heal you, too. Praying for them will also help you to have a forgiving heart.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
This challenge can be tailored to whatever you are believing God to do. Here are the essential details:
- Choose who or what you’re praying for:
- You can choose one person, multiple people or even a place (your city, your country, ect.). You could also choose yourself if you feel you haven’t been praying for your own well being enough. The key is to select a person or place where you want God to move and that you’ll be committed to praying for consistently for the next 31 days. This challenge ends on August 31, but hopefully your praying doesn’t.
- Pray Daily:
- I am writing my prayers for this specific person because I like to write and I like to keep record. There is something extremely gratifying about looking back at a prayer I wrote and being able to say “God really answered me and took care of this”. I’ll probably be writing my prayers, reading them aloud and still praying in my prayer corner (and other places) as I usually do. You do not have to write your prayers out unless you choose to. You can say them in your car or at your desk. You can pray in your bed or while you’re walking. The important part of this is that you are consistent.
- Believe in your prayers:
- Prayer works best if you believe what you’re praying. We have to pray with the expectation that God is listening and will move on the behalf of the people we are praying for (on His own timing of course). The Bible says “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer” Matthew 21:22
So with that being said, we aren’t praying just to say we prayed. We are praying because we believe that God is a miracle worker. We know that there is nothing too big for Him. We are praying for this person or place because we need God to do something in their lives that we are not capable of making happen ourselves. We cannot change anyone but ourselves. We cannot “fix” everyone. We cannot always get a person that job, house, wife, husband, dog, money, happiness or life they want. We cannot force anyone to surrender. —But I know a God who can.
So this month, for the next 31 days, I am praying with a fiery persistence. We aren’t begging God to do things that are not apart of His plan. Instead, we are asking God to have His way in the lives of the individuals we are praying for. We are asking Him to do what we cannot do in our own strength. We are praying for mountains to be moved, chains to be broken, strength to be imparted into our loved ones, healing to take place and so much more. Most of all, we’re trusting God with each situation and understanding that He will come through. We might not see how He’s working, but we know that while we’re praying, trusting and waiting, He is surely hearing us.
I hope that freedom occurs for both you and whoever you choose to cover this month. And when this month is over, don’t ever stop praying ♥
